Should you choose a Master of International Business or MBA program

So you know you want a career in international business. You know you want a one-year business degree. But which one? Master of International Business or MBA? When we first start speaking to students about which program they’re interested in, we often find they’re unsure about the differences and which one is best for them. Here, we break down the differences and similarities between our Master of International Business (MIB) and our Global One-Year MBA programs, and the typical student profile that best suits each program. MIB vs MBA student profile The simplest way to describe the differences between the two programs is the typical background of students. Most MBA programs require a minimum of three years’ work experience, whereas Master of International Business programs are open to those with no work experience. This means that the average age of students on MBA programs tends to be higher than those taking a Master of International Business degree. At Hult, the average age of MBA students is 31, with an average of 6 six years work experience. Our MIB students have an average age of 24 and 1 year’s work experience. In terms of diversity of nationalities, all our programs had students from more than 130 nationalities with a spread of students from all regions of the world. Country of origin for Hults Master of International Business Class of 2015 Country of origin for Hults MBA Class of 2015 Credits and academic rigor Hult’s Master of International Business program is worth 48 credits and our Global MBA is worth 65 credits. This is because the MBA requires you to complete more courses than the MIB, within the same time period. There is the assumption that, having worked in industry for at least three years, and, in most cases, having taken the GMAT, students on an MBA program will have a deeper level of business and subject knowledge. For example, MBA students are expected to have a working knowledge of finance. In many cases the actual courses and the subject matter across the two programs are very similar, if not identical. So there is no difference in the academic value of the courses themselves, or the manner in which they’re taught. The difference lies in the level at which students are able to engage with the material as this is dependent on the amount of on-the-job experience they have. International experience The amount of international experience offered will depend on the school but at Hult, our Master of International Business and MBA programs enable students exactly the same choice. Students are able to study at up to any three of our seven campus locations. They chose one campus to complete there core course – San Francisco, Boston, London, or Dubai – and then have the option to take electives at a further two locations – Shanghai, New York, and Ashridge Estate (U.K.) â€Å"Hult sent me to three campuses: London, Dubai, and Shanghai. It challenged me to visit nine countries, and saw me interact with people from over 100 cultures. Never has my life been so transformed in the space of a year.†   Xiwen Wang, China/U.S., MBA 2015, Operations Analyst. MBK Homes LLC We also find that students learn as much about business culture across the globe and working in cross-cultural teams from their classmates as they do from being on the ground in a different country. This is due to the spectacular diversity of our student body, across all programs. So, regardless of whether someone is studying for an MBA or an MIB, they are exposed to an array of international perspectives without even leaving the classroom. The student diversity at Hult is outstanding. It’s like you’re travelling the world without leaving the classroom. I could gain the perspective of someone from the United Kingdom, Canada, Angola, China, and Columbia – all in the same day.   Michele Bianchi, Italy, Class of 2015, Analyst, Deloitte Quality of faculty As in most leading business schools, many of the same Hult faculty teach both Master of International Business and MBA courses. In many cases, the courses are very similar so professors seamlessly move from one program to another. Some professors have more experience teaching one student demographic and this may be reflected in the classes they choose to teach. But, regardless of the program they’re on, all our students are taught by internationally renowned academics that bring years of business experience to the classroom and have a passion for teaching. The professors are respected professionals with successful careers in both business and academia, and the balance of both perspectives creates a unique and vibrant classroom environment.   Milena Ivanova, Bulgaria, Class of 2015, Talent Enablement Partner EMEA, Hewlett Packard Choice of electives and specializations Hult’s Master of International Business and MBA programs both offer students the ability to specialize in their chosen area of business. Students can choose three electives in a particular area and graduate with a specialization. Hult’s MIB and MBA programs offer specializations in the same six areas: Marketing, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Family Business, Project Management, and Business Analytics. â€Å"My goal after graduating from Hult’s Master of International Business program was to forge a career in marketing. My choice of electives focused on marketing and proved very rewarding – I am now a Marketing Manager.†   Sofia Lundstedt, Sweden, MIB Class of 2013, Marketing Manager, PGA European Tour Sweden MIB and MBA students at Hult have the same breadth of choice of electives. Not all electives are offered at all campuses, so students may well choose their electives based on where they want to study, as well as what they want to study. As all our campus locations are open to students on both programs, the range of choice of electives is unaffected by program, although not all electives are offered to both MIB and MBA students. Some examples of electives available on both programs include: Digital Marketing and Social Media Solutions Marketing Behavioral Finance Adding Value Through Sustainability Fundamentals of the Global Energy Business Disruptive Business Models Project Planning and Execution Project Quality and Risk Management International Negotiations Management, Strategies, and Business Models for Emerging Markets Practical work experience The opportunity to gain practical work experience may be particularly important to Master of International Business students if they have limited experience prior to starting the program. But for those MBA students wanting to switch careers, hands-on, practical application of knowledge and skills is equally important. At Hult, students on both programs participate in a real-world project that is suited to students typical level of work experience: the Hult Business Challenge. Students spend 7 months working with a leading corporation to solve their real business problem, or get a startup idea ready to bring to market. It’s safe environment where students can apply everything they’ve learned in the classroom, learn from their mistakes, and build on their successes. The Hult Business Challenge project was an exciting, hands-on experience, and an invaluable lesson in teamwork.   Marc Seipp, Germany, MIB 2013, Management Consultant, PwC Every year, Hult students from both the MIB and MBA programs work with a different corporation to solve a current problem they’re facing that requires an innovative, strategic solution. Previous clients have included IBM, Philips, and Unilever and covered topics such as artificial intelligence, e-commerce, and sustainability. This year, students are working with Johnson Johnson’s disease interception department to tackle how to most effectively bring interceptive treatments to market. Simulations and experiential learning techniques   Ã¢â‚¬Å"[We] learned not only how to apply financial, marketing, research, operations, and management strategies, but also how to approach business problems holistically. â€Å"The marketplace simulation provided real-life implications of business decisions and how competitive market forces, government regulations, inflation, exchange rates, interest rates and so on, affect a firm’s success. It brought to light everything we had done during our program.†   Norbert Ogochukwu, Niger, MBA Class of 2014, Assistant Vice President, State Street in London Both Hult’s Master of International Business and MBA programs use simulations and immersive, experiential techniques to bring learning to life and enable students to apply theories to real-world situations. As the MBA program is more condensed, it may be that the longer, more complex simulations take place over a shorter period of time than on the MIB program. The depth of experience of MIB students might also dictate that the simulations be slightly less complex than those undertaken by MBA students. Leadership development Leadership development programs will differ considerably from school to school. Whereas most leading MBA programs will include a leadership element, not all Masters programs will. At Hult, we believe that learning leadership skills should be an integral part of all graduate business programs. That’s why we’re taking the award-winning leadership skills program from our MBA program and incorporating it into our Master of International Business program. â€Å"Hult’s unique approach to the development of managerial and soft skills, along with a multicultural approach to being successful in a globalized labor market, really makes it stand out.†   Javier A. Cuellar, Columbia, MBA Class of 2013, Assistant Vice President, State Street London Hult interviewed 100 of the world’s leading CEOs to find out if business school graduates arrived in the workplace with the right skills. The 18 soft skills deemed critical by the CEOs we interviewed form 3 core competencies: Interpersonal Influence, Team Collaboration, Adaptive Thinking. Students work on developing observable skills across these competencies. Skills such as persuasively selling an idea, coaching team mates for performance and growth, and seeing underlying patterns in complex situations. Their progress is systematically measured throughout their entire degree program. The Effects of Technological Advancements on the Brain...

Book Review #1: The Shallows The advancement of technology has constantly shaped the way society operates as a whole, but not too often do people take a further look in to realize if technology is affecting our individual brains. Those points of analysis get addressed in the book The Shallows (2010) as the author Nicholas Carr scientifically examines how technology may or may not be subconsciously altering our brains. Technology is constantly evolving, such the same as humans, but does the advancement in technology directly affect the development of our brains? And if so, is this occurrence something that individuals should begin to worry about? Although these are arguable questions, Carr does an excellent job of analyzing evidence and facts to better understand how technology might be affecting the human brain. Carr begins with personal analysis by addressing the fact that he has been experiencing trouble focusing, he begins to realize that the possible reason as to why he is unable to properly sit down and read a paperback book from cover to cover is due to the technology which is available to his person at every moment of everyday. During his analysis of such possible causes of his lack of focus, he finds that as a writer, he uses the Internet for the majority of his research, which then led to many distractions and alterations of the way he worked. â€Å"My mind isn’t going-so far I can tell-but it’s changing†(page 5). The Titanic Was A British Passenger Liner - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 984 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/08/07 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Titanic Essay Did you like this example? The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during the voyage from Southampton to New York City. This boat carried a total of two thousand two hundred twenty-nine people. The number of survivors varied form seven hundred one to around seven hundred thirteen people. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Titanic Was A British Passenger Liner" essay for you Create order This British liner was separated by a class system and if anyone was to survive the sinking of the Titanic you were most likely an upper class male, woman, or a child. The film demonstrates two sociological concepts, gender roles and class inequality. After analyzing the film, you truly realize the ideological definition of class status. Meaning that class status, is ones social economic standing. Its obvious the division of the upper and lower class citizens who randomly unite on the largest ship in the world at its time. In this scenario, an upper class female falls in love with a lower class male. This may be due to this lower class gentleman having wiser morals and is more grateful for what he has. The upper classs personalities are portrayed as snobby people and treat everything they come in contact with as materialistic things. This could be the reason why Rose fell out of love with her fiance, whom was part of the upper class and became interested in Jack. In the film, when Roses fiance sees Jack dressed as a rich man would. Roses fiance makes the comment, Amazing, you could almost pass for a gentleman basically meaning Jack cannot and will not be viewed as a gentleman because he has no money. The movie does a great job at portraying different personality features between the different social classes. Describing how people are treated in reality, based on their class and the drastic difference in their surroundings. Gender roles are consecutively brought up in The Titanic film. In most cases, women were putting most of their effort in attempting to impress the gentleman. Back then, women werent able to provide for themselves without a man. Roses mother would demand Rose to marry rich because their family is poor but regardless of their familys financial standings, Rose had no other choice. This film proves that women would sacrifice their reputation for beauty just to please the men. Men would have conversations amongst themselves on topics pertaining to politics or business because it was believed that a woman didnt understand such topics. These men believed they had the upper-hand on women at all times. Roses fiance would become angry with her until she obeyed to his orders. He thought of her as an animal when she would speak upon herself. He believed that he should always speak for her. Roses fiance never realized he was acting in such an inappropriate way because he was raised with social privilege. During that time, men acting in such a way toward the female was considered the right way. Comparing that to now, if men were to act in such a way that wouldnt be normal. Although, there is still that idealistic idea that the female gender isnt to be viewed as masculine or aggressive; and even still some relationships that believe in the man making all decisions. While aboard on the Titanic, your social class separates you amongst the passengers and also depicted the treatment you received. The rich and poor were portrayed completely different. Ones who were viewed as elegant or brilliant were the rich. On the other hand, people who were displayed as dirty, idiotic, and brainless were the poor. The poor were required to have health inspections before boarding the ship. The wealthy has their luggage carried and were not inspected due to their socioeconomic status. Jack was accused of theft only because he didnt have an advantage like the upper class had. It was easier for him to be punished, although he was set up by Roses fiance. With Jack being labeled as the lower class, when he put in his word against someone of a higher class, it meant absolutely nothing to the police. The lower class was locked into their living quarters while the boat began to sink. While on the other hand, the upper class was able to load onto the lifeboats. There was a limited number of lifeboats aboard the ship that seating was very limited due to the number of passengers. It was made apparent that the upper classs lives were important than anyone below their socioeconomic status. With the Titanic now sinking, Jack and Roses fiances task was to save Rose. If there was any reason these gender roles were to switch between the three, it would be more likely that Rose would be the one saving the two men. This restates gender roles and the idea of the boldness attribute men obtain. After the sinking of The Titanic, Molly who was classified as new money asked the lifeboat to go back to the site due to the extra room that was available. The captain immediately denied her request and was threatened by the captain if she continued to defy. Throughout the film therere multiple patterns, men are these idealistic heros and to be comforted by women, women are useless and cant live without a rich man supporting them, and finally the way youre treated is completely depended on your standing within the social class system. In the film The Titanic, the white men are those in power because of socially constructed gender roles that were designed by white men. This film does an excellent job at demonstrating and criticizing how our society is today. It shows exactly how the unfair treatment of people based on their social classes is handled. It also shows how people can use their money in order to get what they want in life. Leaving the lower class citizens remaining at the lower end in society.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) - 1653 Words

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION Societies have been devastated by a number of epidemiological outbreaks, but few diseases have been as antagonistic as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The global transmission of this disease has been perpetuated by the ease of long distance travel and immigration (Magis-Rodriguez, 2004; Xu et al., 2014). Throughout the past 35 years the course of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as patterns of immigration, have changed immensely. Given the increase in both HIV and immigration, specifically in North Carolina (NC), this dissertation will focus mostly on changes, concerns, and strengths pertaining to the screening and treatment for HIV among Latino immigrants in NC. But immigration would wax and wane with economic circumstances, both in the U.S. and in foreign countries. As conditions deteriorated in some ar eas of the globe, and labor needs increased here in the U.S., immigration was a convenient answer to a dynamic situation (Bankston, 2007). By the late 1930’s, the economic situation in Mexico was worsening and employment was difficult to secure (Mexican Immigrant Labor History, retrieved 2014). When the U.S. entered WWII in 1942, there was another call from the agricultural industry for immigrant laborers (Mexican Immigrant Labor History, retrieved 2014). This initiated the Bracero Program which offered contract employment to Mexican men, and laborers to U.S. farmers, and became the precursor to later Mexico-U.S. migration (Philip, 2006). Latinos did not come exclusively from Mexico, but some migrated from countries south of the Mexican border, entering the U.S. illegally, and were presumed to have entered the U.S. through Mexico (Bankston, 2007). When the program officially ended in 1964, many of the migrant workers remained in the country unauthorized (Philip, 2006), a nd eventually migrated to southern states that offered economic opportunity, including NC (Bankston, 2007). Today, many Latino immigrants are choosing to make NC their home (Weeks, Weeks,

Media s Views On Media Essay - 1328 Words

As humans most of us strongly stand by our opinions specifically concerning politics. There are numerous media outlets that we are exposed to daily that are managed by individuals who hold resolute views regarding specific pressing political topics. They share their views with the general public. Media is made up various dissimilar forms. These include social media, television, radio, and podcasts. As a result of these abundant media sources, many viewers are affected by what they are subjected to daily when exhibiting media. Thus, media in the United States is undoubtedly biased; News outlets have agendas that they adhere to actively making all media slanted to one side. Media viewers and the general public may have biased understandings regarding news, nevertheless U.S. Media will always be more bias. Everyday we are likely to encounter media that is inherently partial. Today, because of the internet we have access to countless articles from various news outlets that discuss an assortment of issues from abortion laws to the presidential election. Each news source discusses the same issues in distinct ways. This is because news outlets are either left or right leading or somewhere in the middle. On the left: â€Å"— Huffington Post, Daily Kos, etc. — as well as more conservative organizations such as Drudge and Free Republic. The Ethical Aspects of Childbirth

Question: Write an essay onThe Ethical Aspects of Childbirth. Answer: Before discussing the ethical aspects of childbirth, it is necessary to understand what exactly is meant by ethics, or what makes an aspect ethical in nature. Ethics refers to those basic principles which govern the decency of human conduct. It can also be termed as morality. Ethical aspects are topics which are widely discussed matters by the global media. Ethics can be considered as guidelines for any business organization or sector, to maintain a harmonious environment and evade controversies and chaos. For example, nursing ethics is the application of ethical values, and determination of right from wrong in the field of nursing. The International Council of Nurses has developed a standard guideline on the ethical values of nursing known as the Code of Ethics for Nurses, for the nurses to abide by worldwide. Nursing ethics can fall under the category of professional ethics, which is comprised of the laws or standards which govern the corporate, personal and organizational behavior which is expected from the individual ("The Code for nurses and midwives", 2016). The most prevalent ethical values include honesty with clients, patients or customers; maintaining the integrity of clients, customers or patients, that is earning their trust; and loyalty towards the organization and other co-workers. There are a multitude of ethical aspects in the health industry, such as euthanasia, use of embryonic stem cells for the purpose of research and so on. Highlighting the principal ethical concerns in child birth (Nadroo, 2012)- Premature birth or delivery of a child before expected due. Genetic testing of child at birth to determine the health of the expected child and any congenital disease, or genetic defects at birth. Maternal autonomy or the decision making of an expecting woman regarding her childbirth Abortion or the deliberate termination of the foetus. Limitations of child birth that is restricting the number of children in a family to one or two, to prevent over population. Ethical dilemma regarding child birth limits : The increasing population has always been a major concern for the countries of the world, especially the developing countries. Human population planning has been implemented in various developed countries. Family planning is one of the best ways to attain a viable future. An increase in population results in decreased resources, loss of biodiversity and scarcity of water. Despite of using contraceptive measures, it is tough to say that all occurring pregnancies are intended. According to the survey, it is observed that 40% of the pregnancies that occur in developing countries are unintended, and 47% pregnancies are unintended in the developed countries. The Institute of World Resources estimates that there will be an increase in the worlds population by 34% by the year 2050 ("Family planning/Contraception", 2016). Views on child birth limits: Over the past decade people have been supportive towards this initiative. Eminent personalities have condemned and supported for planning of the population. In 2007 the head of the UN Millenium Project, Jeffery Sachs, had stated the effects controlling overpopulation would have on the reduction of poverty. China is the one of the countries which encouraged the birth of only one child (one child policy). One child policy in China became effective in the year, 1979. However, the youngest generation, under the one child policy, by the time they reached the age, it was observed that one child had to take the responsibility of the entire family. Consequently, there was a change in the laws in 2009, allowing couples to have two children provided that each of the parent is a single child. This law was further relaxed since late 2013, to couples allowed to have two children, if any one parent is a single child (Grice, 2012). During 1970s Hong Kong had launched the Two is Enough campaign, by the Family Planning Association. Currently, the total fertility rate per women in Hong Kong is 1.04, which is lowest in the world ("The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong ", 2016). In the UK, the Optimum Population Trust, proposed the plan of two child policy, to regulate overpopulation. However, in 2012, the Conservative Party proposed a similar concept, but modified the policy by providing benefits for children with unemployed parents. Opposition The major opposition has been provided by the Roman Catholic Church, with respect to birthing limits and its measures. According to religion, human life is considered as a gift of God, and termination of such gift is a sin and is a subject to penance. According to Pope Benedict, the termination of millions of lives, for the sake of poverty, has indicated the destruction of all human beings. A coalition encompassing Churches of Scotland and England, Baptist, Methodist and Reform Churches, claim that this is an antifamily proposal and could lead to the breaking up of families and households and increase abortion rates in the UK (Bingham, 2015) Significance of child birth limits Limiting child birth is a way to state that the poor should not breed. It can be said however that limiting child birth has a positive effect in reducing overpopulation, which indirectly limits the use of resources. References Bingham, J.
